However, after careful consideration, we have to respectfully disagree. One of our staff members, Miguel Lopez is an authentic Mexican person, and he has confirmed the correct pronunciation of “tortillas” is in fact tort-till-yaz, with a strong emphasis on yaz.

In somewhat related news, shortly after our recommendation, young Hsitas contacted us to let us know he stopped by Mike’s Taco Hut and received what he described as “the best roti of my life. I never knew roti could be so spicy and full of beans.”

Dunno lol I just call ‘em tor-tee-as.. gosh I’m Italian I don’t know how to write pronunciation, but I don’t pronunce “L” and I guess none does.

Well, since I heard Bruschette pronunced “Bru_SHe_tte” instead of “Bru_sKet_tte” I’m not even surprised.

In spanish the double ll makes a y sound, so technically my pronunciation should have a y in it. But I’m lazy and never say the y.

hahaha. Yeah the first one is definitely how I would’ve pronounced it.  But then again, I’ve never taken Italian. Is it horrible to hear people butchering your language?

Why do you say BruSHetta? I mean, in Spanish don’t you read “CH” as “k” ? :P

Anyway I’ll never understand why in america “pepperoni” is preserved pork meat (or salame, in Italian.. pronunced with a final E like in AmErica ) … Peperoni (with only 1 P in the middle) in Italy mean “bell peppers”  :S

I guess it’s south Italy old/poor/ignorant immigrants fault… We’ll never know :(

Anyway you should learn Italian! It’s one of the hardest languages in the world, with a lot of hard grammar and impossible verbs, but a lot of Spanish speaking people find it really easy to speak! Also I think it sounds very musical.. Cmon! If you learn Italian you will improve your ancient latin too!!

No, in the Mexican spanish it’s still a CH, as in chicharones.

WTF. Great, now I’m going to think of that anytime I say those words. And I’m going to sound all prestigious and know it all when I say “ACTUALLY it’s pronounced…”

You assumed I actually learned Spanish. When I decided not to take a 4th year of it my mom’s only comment was “Well, you can barely speak English, I guess we can’t except you to know another language.” But I would love to learn Italian. that would be amazing. But is it really the hardest? Like, hardest Latin based language because I think the Germanic languages are supposed to be insanely hard too.

Ok so in spanish you say CH like… “Cherry” … not like “SHAMWOW” … in Italian C is always like cherry if C is before I and E. Otherwise is like a K.

so CA = KA, CO = KO, CU = KU and CE = CHE and CI = CHI.

BUT,  CIA = CHA, CIO = CHO, CIU = CHU,  CHE = KE and CHI = KI.

OK, mindfucked.

Nah, it’s not that hard, I think French is harder since in Italy you will find someone always tryin to understand what you have to say, even if you jsut communicate with gesture.. It’ll never happen in France or Germany :P

And it’s always the same old story: learn how to understand it, then how to speak, then how to write. :)

If you know some Spanish and Latin you have something you can use to learn some Italian… but I guess the best way to learn is takin a plane and come in Milan for 2 months… I bet you’d love this city! (but I guess you should turn 18 first, if I remember correctly you are 16 or something like this)

OMG, what. There are way to many rules. I don’t like that CE=CHE but CHE=KE That’s majorly trippy.

I understand the body language thing. I’m, like, an 1/4th Italian, and the body language is still there. Okay, I don’t know if this will work for you, but my friend once had me sit on my hands while trying to have a conversation with her, and I kept jumping and losing my place. It was really hard. Just, try it one time.

Yeah, I’m from the West of the United States; know for talking fast and using words like “Dude,” “Totally,” and “Like”

Noooo I just got back from Europe and that was some jet lag I never want to experience again. I wish I had gone to Italy, but we wanted to stay in countries that we knew the language. You know what? I’ll learn Italian and come back to Europe soon! (No, I’m 17; 18 in 2 months, so almost there!)
